When learning a new language, it is sometimes a little difficult to learn its sounds. Let me tell you: music really helps!
These days, as I was browsing the Internet, I came across a song in Spanish anyone studying Spanish might want to listen to. Its name is “Quédate”, by Leonard Agutin (Russia) and Diego Torres (Argentina). You can find it here.
I like this song for Spanish learners because:
- It is not difficult to understand.
- Its simple melody makes you want to sing along.
The video is also a plus: it shows the two singers and parts of different films where Lolita Torres starred. She was Diego’s mother. And Leonid is one of her fans. This song is dedicated to her.
Another way to practice through songs is to choose a song you already know in your own language and listen to its Spanish version. For example, the very well known “Chiquitita” by Abba (Sweden). It was first sang in English and soon afterwards in Spanish. There is a new version by Cher you can find on YouTube and Spotify as well.
You will also find the lyrics to these songs on the net. And if you would like to work with them on your Spanish, you could simply take out the verbs and try to rewrite them as you listen to the songs as when our students learn Spanish with us.
And you can also sing along! As you imitate the singer, you are learning to pronounce the words.
